WEHT Channel 25 Staff Being Slashed

I’ve seen this before, in both radio and television, and it is always a sad thing.  As WTVW and WEHT consolidate under Nexstar Broadcasting, many good and skilled folks will be losing their positions.  It looks like Brad Byrd, Shelley Kirk, Jordan Vandenberge, Wayne Hart, and David Heckard will be permitted to stay in their current positions.  However, other WEHT News people you know, such as Whitney Ray, Nick LaGrange, Mark McVicar and Sean Clark-Weis, will be looking for other jobs soon, as will those behind-the-scenes people whose names you may not recognize, such as Doug Padgett, longtime general manager, Mike Riley, station manager and general sales manager, and Mark Glover, news director.

I have experienced similar events in my own broadcasting career and I empathize with these fellow broadcasters.  Granted, when you enter this biz, you realize that this could eventually happen to you, but even that knowledge doesn’t completely prepare you for the actual event, nor does it ever come close to preparing your family and those who care about you.

I want all of these fine broadcasters who are affected to know that I appreciate what you have done for our community.  We will miss you and wish you all the best for the future.
