Jennifer Hudson, Chaka Khan and a host of musical greats are lined up to pay tribute to fallen star Whitney Houston at the 54th annual Grammy Awards tonight.  The legendary singer died Saturday in her hotel room at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel, just hours before she was to perform at a pre-Grammy Awards party hosted by Clive Davis, her mentor.

Jennifer Hudson, 30, has been asked to perform in the tribute to Houston tonight.  The late superstar presented Hudson with her own Grammy for Best R&B Album in 2009, the same year Hudson’s mother and brother were killed in Chicago.

The news of Houston’s death came as a shock to the entire Grammy family, especially to Executive Producer Ken Ehrlich.  He learned of her death during rehearsals for the 54th Grammys in L.A. Saturday afternoon.

As music industry leaders begin arriving at the Staples Center in L.A. this afternoon, Houston’s decades-long musical career is the main topic, her sad passing is at the heart of all conversations.
