Beware The Newest Telephone Scam – You Won a $7,000.00 Government Grant (And They Called MY CELL PHONE)

(flickr/B Rosen)

Look, no one ever said I was the brightest bulb in the box.  When it comes to common sense I’m as dull as they come some days.  So, of course, I answered my cell phone when a “blocked” call came in the other day and quickly found myself the target of the latest phone scam.

The guy on the other end of the line who could barely speak clear English knew my legal name and my address and congratulated me on being awarded a $7,000.00 government grant.  All I had to do to secure this grant was to tell him A) what I wanted to do with this fortunate wealth and B) give him a bank account or credit card number to deposit the money into.

The kicker was he suggested I put it all on a Walmart cash card just in case I was hesitant to give him my bank account information.

EXSQUEEZE ME!?!?!?!??! (prepare y’all-selves for the su’thun cause she’s a comin’ out)

“What in tarnation-heck-uh-fahre you stupid ingrate-iated people think we’uns was borned into?  huh?  A Walmart card?  ARE YOU HIGH, CLARISSE?  That’s a dead give-uh-way y’alls ain’t nutin’ but a big ole scam.  I mean REALLY!”  A Walmart card!?!?  I knows what y’alls up to!  Y’alls a’gunna just stick the money in dere and then suck it right back out and it’s a fine how-do-ye-do-do-do-da-dah-dah-dah-see ya later suckah!”

Needless to say, I stayed on the phone with the fool and kept drilling him about what the catch was (you call me, you better be prepared to answer me)

Then I posted it to Facebook.  He’s supposed to call me back on Friday – LOL
